In 2020 she graduated with her Master's in Clinical Psychology from Eastern Michigan University. She then obtained her clinical hours with the University of Michigan at the University Center for the Child and Family where she expanded her training to include both behavior analysis and psychotherapy (also known as talk therapy). Prior to becoming an occupational therapist, Makenna worked as a preschool teacher and as an occupational therapy aide for an Autism and Apraxia clinic in San Diego, and conducted research for the UC Davis MIND institute focusing on autism research. Makenna also founded a Special Olympics Unified Sports Team on San Diego State’s campus and spent time working for the Special Olympics. Makenna highly values community, meaningful relationships, and inclusion. She strives to advocate for the well-being of children by promoting inclusivity and accessibility in all aspects of life through play-based intervention and skill development.
